BAXTER, GEORGE ROBERT WYTHEN (1815-1854), author, of Upper Bryn, Llanllwchaiarn, Mont.; he was the only son of George Trotham Baxter of Hereford, and was a member of an old family long settled in the neighbourhood of Newtown. Among his ancestors was Richard Baxter, the famous Presbyterian divine. Four of his works are listed in the B.M. General Catalogue of Printed Books. These include The Book of the Bastiles, or the History of the working of the Poor Law, 1841, and Don Juan Junior: a poem by Byron's Ghost, 1839. He d. 17 Jan. 1854, and a memorial tablet was set up by his mother in Llanllwchaiarn church.

BAXTER, GEORGE ROBERT WYTHEN (DWB, 28). His father's dates are 1762-1841. He himself was b. at Monmouth and christened 14 June 1814. He entered an Oxford college but did not graduate there. He m. at Tenby, 5 June 1833, Martha Maria Caulfield (d. 1 Apr. 1875).
