BEVAN , EVAN ( 1803 - 1866 ), poet .

Son of William and Gwenllian Bevan , b. at Llangynwyd, Glam. Coming from a poor family, he was not taught any specific trade and began working as a casual farm labourer . When he was about 22-24 years of age he moved to Ystradfellte , Brecknock , where he m. Ann , daughter of Thomas David Ifan , butcher . He moved subsequently to Pont Neath Vaughan , where he d. Oct. 1866 .

Under the bardic name of Ianto'r Castell he became well known in local circles as a composer of Welsh verse chiefly of a humorous and satirical nature . His subjects were mainly local and topical. A collection of his verse can be seen in N.L.W. MS. 1127 .
