CADWALADR CESAIL (fl. 1620), poet

Name: Cadwaladr Cesail
Gender: Male
Occupation: poet
Area of activity: Poetry
Author: Norma Gwyneth Hughes

One manuscript justifies the assumption that he lived at 'y Gesail Gyfarch ' in Caernarfonshire; he also wrote a poem on the death of Elis Wyn of that place in 1624. Seventeen cywyddau and nine englynion by him are extant, the greater part being written in praise of, or on the death of, members of the families of Gwydir, Glynllifon, Bodwrda, etc., one being written to Huw Gwyn of Berth Ddu when he was sheriff in 1609. Some of the englynion were written to Ifan Tew (the younger?) when he sought appointment as magistrate.
