CHARLES, JAMES (1851-1906), painter; b. at Warrington but of Welsh origin, his father having come from Caernarvonshire. He studied at Hatherley's Studio and at the Royal Academy Schools, London. Charles was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy and other London galleries for almost forty years of his life. Two of his works — ‘The Village Road’ and ‘Winter,’ both of them oil paintings — are in the National Museum of Wales. He d. in 1906.
