DAFYDD, JOHN and MORGAN (fl. 1747), hymn-writers; sons of David John (1698-1775) and Margaret Richard, his wife (1692-1774) John Dafydd was b. in 1727 and was still living in 1771. The brothers are said to have been cobblers by trade and to have lived in Bedwgleision, Caeo, Carms.; the Methodist society of Caeo used to meet in their home. John is mentioned in the Trevecka records as an exhorter in the earliest years of the Methodist revival. Another brother, Richard, was the ancestor of the Rev. Richard David of Llansadwrn. Several of the hymns written by the two brothers are to be found in the Aleluia, 1747, of William Williams, Pantycelyn, and reprinted in modern hymnaries.
