DAVIES , EVAN ( 1750 - 1806 ), Independent minister ;

b. in Dyffryn Llynod in the parish of Llandyssul . His father, James Davies , was the minister of the churches of Cilgwyn , Abermeurig , and Ciliau Aeron . Evan Davies was for some years a student at Carmarthen Academy . In 1775 he was ordained as a co-pastor of the church at Llanedy, Carms. , where he laboured for the rest of his life. He d. 12 April 1806 , aged 56. Evan Davies was an acceptable preacher , a kindly person, and a diligent worker. He did not become immersed in the theological disputations which disturbed the churches at that time but devoted himself to the task of developing the cause of Independency in the district. He was instrumental in establishing several churches, including Llanelly ( Capel Als ), 1780 , Cross Inn ( Ammanford ), 1782 , Pembrey , and, despite much persecution, Kidwelly ( Capel Sul ), 1785 ; he has therefore a niche in the history of the development of Independency in Carmarthenshire .
