The son of Daniel and Elizabeth Davies; born in a cottage near Sardis chapel, Llandovery, on 1 May. He attended a school at Myddfai for a brief period. In 1841 he went to Hanover School, near Abergavenny, to prepare himself for entrance to Brecon College, where he was admitted as a student in 1842. He was a minister at Lanelli, Brecknock (1846), Aberaman (1854), Mount Stuart, Cardiff (1863), and Hannah Street, Cardiff (1868-74). He died 8 May 1874 and was buried in the Cardiff cemetery. He was a prominent figure in denominational movements and in the public life of South Wales. He published a booklet, Y Doniau Gwyrthiol, 1851, to counteract the influence of the Mormons in Wales. He was associated with the Gwron and the Gwladgarwr, and was editor of Y Beirniad ; he was also actively concerned in establishing Yr Adolygydd, 1850. He was a keen supporter of the Liberation Society and of the movements for establishing English churches in South Wales and for setting up a memorial college at Brecon.
