DAVIES , LEWIS ( 1777 - 1828 ), major-general ,

son of John Davies of Crugiau , Llanbadarnfawr , Aberystwyth , joined the army in 1791 , fought on the Continent ( 1794 , 1799 ), in the West Indies ( 1796 ), and in the Peninsular War , distinguishing himself particularly at Salamanca ( 1812 ). He m. Jane , daughter of Matthew Davies , of Cwm Cynfelyn , retired to Tan-y-bwlch , Aberystwyth , and d. there 10 May 1828 , aged 51. [ Jane Davies 's sister, Anne , was the mother of Isaac Williams the Tractarian (q.v.) .]
