EDWARDS, EBENEZER (1824-1901), Baptist minister in Wales and the U.S.A. ; b. at Llangollen. He went to the Baptist College, Haverfordwest, and to a similar institution in the U.S.A. after emigrating there as a relatively young man. He was ordained in 1851 as minister of a Baptist church at Pittstown, Pennsylvania; he was later at Cincinatti. He returned to Wales in 1858 and ministered to churches at Bryn-mawr and Llanelly, but again moved to the U.S.A. in 1868, and spent the greater part of his remaining years in Pennsylvania. Of his writings the most important is Welshmen as Factors in the Development of the Republic … Successful Prize Essay … International Eisteddfod … Chicago 1893 (Utica, N.Y., 1899). He d. early in 1901.
