EDWARDS , JOHN ( 1692? - 1774 ), parish clerk and poet ;

son of John Edwards and his wife Elinora (?). He was chr. in 1692 in the parish church of Manafon, Mont. , and there in 1730 he m. Catherine , daughter of Evan Evans , Cwm-yr-annel , Carno . He was parish clerk of Manafon for fifty years. He wrote englynion and carols , some of his work being published in Evan Davies ( Philomath , fl. 1720-50 , q.v.) of Manafon 's almanac, 1738 , and some in the almanacs produced by Gwilym Howell (q.v.) of Llanidloes , 1766-75 . He was buried in Manafon churchyard, 14 Jan. 1774 .
