EDWARDS, JOHN (1692?-1774), parish clerk and poet;
son of John Edwards and his wife Elinora (?). He was chr. in 1692 in the parish church of Manafon, Mont., and there in 1730 he m. Catherine, daughter of Evan Evans, Cwm-yr-annel, Carno. He was parish clerk of Manafon for fifty years. He wrote englynion and carols, some of his work being published in Evan Davies (Philomath, fl. 1720-50, q.v.) of Manafon's almanac, 1738, and some in the almanacs produced by Gwilym Howell (q.v.) of Llanidloes, 1766-75. He was buried in Manafon churchyard, 14 Jan. 1774.
