ELLIS , REES ( fl. 1714 ), bard .

Three of his poems are preserved in manuscript, viz. a poem in praise of true love, to the tune of ‘ Heavy Heart ,’ in N.L.W. MS. 1710 (133) , lovers’ discourse to the tune of ‘ Leave Land ,’ and an exhortation against swearing, in N.L.W. MS. 9 (3, 565) . In another manuscript, N.L.W. 3201 , there is a poem by ‘ Rhys Elis of Chirk ’ — ‘ Man's life compared to the twelve months of the year .’ This poem is also published in Blodeu-Gerdd Cymry , 1759 , 421, together with two other poems, ‘ A Summer Carol ’ dated 1736 , 304, and ‘ Advice for Godly Life ,’ 492.
