EVANS , DAVID ( 1740 - 1790 ), Baptist minister at Dolau, Rads. ;

b. at Cilfowyr of a line of preachers ; Titus Lewis ( 1773 - 1811 ) (q.v.) was m. to a sister of his. He began to preach about 1763 . In 1771 he took charge of the churches at Dolau and Rock but, as he spoke very little English , he gave up the latter. He had an attractive personality and a missionary spirit, and his labours in Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire were crowned with considerable success. He was the first to go to North Wales with the mission sent by his denomination in 1776 , and was the first to baptize by immersion in Anglesey . He d. at the age of 50 on 14 Oct. 1790 .

His son DAVID EVANS ( 1773 - 1828 ), b. at Dolau , 10 March 1773 , was ordained ( 1 Nov. 1798 ) minister (next but one after the father) of Dolau . He was a vigorous missioner in Radnorshire and Herefordshire , revived the congregation at Rock , and with Kilpin of Leominster established a congregation at Kington ; for twenty years he was secretary of the South-East Wales Baptist Association . He d. 30 Aug. 1828 .
