EVANS , HUGH ( Hywel Eryri ; 1767 - 1841? ), poet ;

b. in the parish of Llanfair-mathafarn-eithaf , Anglesey . A weaver by trade, he lived in Aber-erch , Chwilog , Plas Madog in the parish of Clynnog , and Pen-y-groes, Caerns. He wrote a cywydd on the subject of ‘ Cariad ’ for a Bangor eisteddfod held c. 1790 and another in 1802 on ‘ Drylliad y llong Minerva, Ion. 21, 1802 .’ Much of his work appeared in the North Wales Chronicle and in Welsh periodicals: three or four ballads by him were printed separately. He d. at Pen-y-groes some time after May 1840 .
