GRIFFITHS, EVAN (1778-1839), Calvinistic Methodist minister, one of the eight ordained in North Wales in 1811; b. at Rhos-fawr near Meifod, Mont., 12 March 1778, son of Edward Griffiths and his wife Margaret (Evans) — another of their sons was Thomas Griffiths, husband of the hymnist Ann Griffiths [q.v.]. The mother and her children removed to Ceunant, Meifod, where Evan began preaching in 1802. He d. 6 Sept. 1839. There is a memoir of him, by John Hughes of Pontrobert, 1840.
