GRIFFITH , Sir JOHN PURSER ( 1848 - 1938 ), civil engineer ; b. at Holyhead , 5 Oct. 1848 , son of the Rev. William Griffith ( 1801 - 1881 ) (q.v.) He was educated at Fulneck Moravian school and Trinity College , Dublin ( M.A. ); had a very distinguished professional career in Ireland (details in Who was Who , 1929-40 , and Times , 22 Oct. 1938 ); was knighted in 1911 ; and in 1922 became a Senator of the Irish Free State . He d. 22 Oct. 1938 . Sir John was a Moravian , took much pride in his Welsh - Moravian forbears, and was also a good friend to the small Welsh Calvinistic Methodist church in Dublin .
