GRUFFYDD , ‘ Syr ’ SION (d. 1586? ), poet and chaplain

to William ap Sir Rhys Thomas , a commander who served under the earl of Leicester in the Low Countries and who was killed at Zutphen in 1586 . It is surmised that the poet d. at the same time. At least two of his poems have been preserved, one a religious carol and the other a better known carol of longing for Caernarvon , composed when the poet was in Flanders .
