Born at Tŷ-mawr, Llanuwchllyn, Meironnydd. He emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1832, settled in Utica, N.Y., and became an assistant preacher with the Congregationalists, but later was ordained minister at Middle Granville, N.Y. He became prominent as an eisteddfodwr and as a patron of ' Cymdeithas yr Hen Frythoniaid,' a Welsh society which had been established at Utica in 1824; he was president of this society in 1842. He won a prize at the Utica eisteddfod, 2 January 1860, for an essay which was published the same year, at Rome, N.Y., under the title of Traithawd ar Ddechreuad a Chynnydd y Cymry yn Utica a'i Hamgylchoedd. He died 13 July 1864; a memoir, by Edward Davies, Waterville, was published in 1866.
