HOWELL , LLEWELYN DAVID ( 1812 - 1864 ), Congregational minister, author, and eisteddfodwr ;

b. at Tŷ-mawr , Llanuwchllyn, Mer. He emigrated to the U.S.A. in 1832 , settled in Utica, N.Y. , and became an assistant preacher with the Congregationalists , but later was ordained minister at Middle Granville, N.Y. He became prominent as an eisteddfodwr and as a patron of ‘ Cymdeithas yr Hen Frythoniaid ,’ a Welsh society which had been established at Utica in 1824 ; he was president of this society in 1842 . He won a prize at the Utica eisteddfod , 2 Jan. 1860 , for an essay which was published the same year, at Rome, N.Y. , under the title of Traithawd ar Ddechreuad a Chynnydd y Cymry yn Utica a'i Hamgylchoedd . He d. 13 July 1864 ; a memoir, by Edward Davies , Waterville , was published in 1866 .
