HUMPHREYS , RICHARD MACHNO ( 1852 - 1904 ), Baptist minister ;

b. 14 March 1852 at Tal-y-bont, Cards. , the son of a man from Halkin, Flints. , who had m. at Tal-y-bont . Benjamin Humphreys , Felin-foel (q.v.) , was a brother of his. After working for some years at Tal-y-bont , as a lead miner , he moved to Dylife, Mont. , where he began to preach . Afterwards he worked in a coal-mine at Gilfach Goch, Glam. , and it was from here that he went to the Baptist College , Llangollen , in 1875 . He ministered at Siloam , Cardiff ( 1877-84 ), Rhosddu , Wrexham ( 1884-91 ), and Calfaria , Llanelly ( 1891-1904 ). When he was at Llanelly he edited the Welsh column in the Llanelly Mercury . He began to write verse when he was quite young and won chairs at eisteddfodau — Wrexham ( 1884 ), Rhosllanerchrugog ( 1887 ), Newcastle Emlyn ( 1888 ), Pontyberem ( 1901 ), Felinfoel ( 1901 ); he also won the crown in the Rhyl national eisteddfod , 1904 . He d. 30 Nov. 1904 .
