JAYNE , FRANCIS JOHN ( 1845 - 1921 ), bishop ;

b. 1 Jan. 1845 , second son of John Jayne of Pant-y-beiliau , Llanelly , Brecknock , and Elizabeth his wife. He was educated at Rugby School and Wadham College , Oxford , where he took three first classes and won several University prizes . He took his B.A. in 1868 and M.A. in 1870 . He was elected Fellow of Jesus College in 1868 and tutor of Keble College in 1871 . He was ordained deacon and priest in 1870 . In 1879 he was appointed principal of S. David's College , Lampeter ; he remained there for seven years, subsequently becoming vicar of Leeds and bishop of Chester . He resigned his see in 1919 . In 1872 he m. Emily , daughter of W. J. Garland (see Edwards , A. G. ), by whom he had three sons and three daughters. He d. at Oswestry , 23 Aug. 1921 , and was buried at Bowdon , Cheshire .
