JENKINS , JOHN ( 1821 - 1896 ), editor and translator ;

b. in Nov. 1821 , at Llanidloes, Mont. , son of Edward Jenkins , flannel manufacturer . He was educated at Shrewsbury and articled to John Owen , solicitor , Newtown . In 1842 he returned to Llanidloes and settled there. He held many legal appointments and numerous appointments in local government and educational affairs . He published a number of legal and other pamphlets including Law Reform , 1845 ; National Education , 1848 ; The Laws Relating to Religious Liberty , 1880 ; The Laws Concerning Religious Worship , 1885 . His paper on ‘ The Feudal System ’ was printed in the second edition of Ieuan Brydydd Hir , Some Specimens of the Poetry of the Ancient Welsh Bards. Translated into English, with Notes ( Llanidloes , O. Mills , 1862 ). In 1873 Jenkins published his translations of Welsh poetry, The Poetry of Wales ( Llanidloes , J. Pryse ). He d. 22 Feb. 1896 .
