He was a supporter of the various eisteddfodau held in Powys during his lifetime; he won the second prize in the chief competition at the eisteddfod held at Llansantffraid Glyn Ceiriog in 1743. A number of his poems (in free metre) remain in manuscript; some were also included in various poetry collections published in the 18th century. At least one example in strict metre is to be found, namely two englynion addressed to Richard Lloyd, a doctor at Llanfyllin (NLW MS 6729B ).
