Born 9 May 1819 of an old Welshpool family, and, by profession, a solicitor at Liverpool. In 1867 he circulated ' Proposals for the establishment of the Powysland Club ' of which he became secretary as well as founder. He was, for a quarter of a century, a distinguished contributor to Montgomeryshire Collections, the publication of the Club, his chief contributions being 'The feudal barons of Powys,' 'The territorial divisions of Montgomeryshire,' 'Llanllugan Nunnery,' 'Devolution of the Manors of Arwystli and Cyfeiliog,' 'The Abbey of Ystrad Marchell,' and 'Materials for a History of Welshpool.' (For a complete list, with obituary notice, see Mont. Coll., xvii). He also assisted in the foundation of the Powysland Museum at Welshpool. He died 27 January 1893 at Gungrog, Welshpool.
