JONES , EDWARD ( 1749 - 1779 ), musician ;

b. in 1749 at Dolydd-byrion , near Criccieth, Caerns. He wrote several anthems and hymn-tunes which he left in manuscript. His anthem, ‘ Arglwydd, chwiliaist ac adnabuost fi ,’ became very popular; this was arranged by William Owen , Tremadoc , and afterwards by John Roberts ( Ieuan Gwyllt ) , the latter's arrangement appearing in Y Cerddor Cymreig , nos. 107 and 108 (see also a letter in Y Cerddor Cymreig , March 1870 ). He d. in 1779 , and was buried in the churchyard of Llandwrog, Caerns.
