JONES , EDWARD (‘ the second ’ ; 1775 - 1838 ), Wesleyan minister ;

b. at Cynwyd, Mer. , 1775 . Before his conversion he wrote and acted in interludes . Before long he joined the Wesleyans and became a minister in the following circuits: Beaumaris ( 1804 ), Welshpool ( 1805 ), Merthyr ( 1806 ), Machynlleth ( 1807 ), Ruthin ( 1808 ), Dolgelley ( 1809 ), Aberystwyth ( 1811 ), and Swansea ( 1813 ). In 1815 he was compelled to retire on account of ill-health; he d. 15 April 1838 . A list of the articles published by him in Yr Eurgrawn Wesleyaidd will be found in H. Wesl. Gymr. , i, 276. It is said that he co-operated with John Bryan (q.v.) in publishing in 1805 a collection of hymns, but T. Jones Humphreys was of opinion that Edward Jones of Bathafarn ( 1778 - 1837 ) (q.v.) was the joint editor of that production.
