JONES , EDWARD (‘ Iorwerth Goes Hir1824 - 1880 ), poet, musician, and politician ;

b. at Tŷ Cynnes , Llansantffraid , Glyndyfrdwy . A cobbler by trade, he was a poet by nature, and wrote much in both free and strict metres. He excelled as an englynwr and was awarded the prize at the Aberystwyth national eisteddfod for his englyn on ‘ Chwilen Colorado .’ He was, besides, a gifted musician and enlightened politician . He was a member of a well-known bardic fraternity in Edeirnion , which included Dewi Havhesp ( tailor ) (q.v.) , Rhuddfryn ( stonemason ), Llew Hiraethog ( farmer ), Elis Wyn o Wyrfai ( rector of Llangwm ) (q.v.) and others. His poems were edited by Rhuddfryn , and published, with a preface by H. Cernyw Williams (q.v.) , at Corwen , 1881 . He d. 14 April 1880 .
