LEWELLIN, LLEWELYN (1798-1878), cleric;
b. 3 Aug. 1798, third son of Richard Lewellin of Tremains, Coity, near Bridgend, Glam., and his wife [Maria], daughter of David Jones of Llan-gan (1736-1810) (q.v.). He was educated at Cowbridge grammar school and Jesus College, Oxford, graduating B.A. 1822, M.A. 1824, B.C.L. 1827, and D.C.L. 1829. He was ordained deacon in 1822 and priest in 1823 by the bishop of Oxford, and in 1826 was offered, and accepted, the headmastership of Bruton grammar school, Somerset. Instead of taking this up he went to S. David's College, Lampeter, as its first principal, in 1827, and held the post till his death at Lampeter on 25 Nov. 1878, where he was also buried. He was also vicar of Lampeter (from 1834) and dean of S. Davids (from 1843).
