LEWIS HUDOL ( fl. in the 16th cent. ), poet .

The cywydd ‘ Y ddyn winfaeth ddynionfawr ’ is attributed to him in four manuscripts ( Cwrtmawr MSS. 5 (386), 27 (329) ; N.L.W. MSS. 1246 (42), 5269 (2586) , but it is also attributed to Ieuan ap Gronwy ( Pen. MS. 99 (57) , Mostyn MS. 160 (383) ), and Ieuan ab Huw ( Jesus College MS. 17 (675) , whilst in two manuscripts the name of the author is not given ( Mostyn MS. 161 (292) , Pen. MS. 66 (42) — ‘ai kavodd ai kant’). The earliest copy is that given in Mostyn MS. 161 ( c. 1563 ). ‘ Er athrod trwm weithred traw ’ in Cardiff MS. 12 (295) is also attributed to him.
