LEWYS ap HYWEL (or POWEL ) ( fl. c. 1560-1600 ), poet .

No details concerning him are available, but from the fact that the subjects of his poetry of praise and elegy were mainly persons from Denbighshire and Flintshire it is probable that the poet himself was a native of that part of Wales . A number of his poems remain in MSS., and these include cywyddau addressed to William Mostyn of Mostyn , Pierce Mostyn of Talacre , William Holland of Hendre fawr , and an awdl to Thomas Pryse of S. Asaph ; two religious poems, one of them being anti-Papist in treatment, also remain.
