Born 7 October 1852 at Chester, the son of John Ambrose Lloyd. He was given his earliest music lessons by his father and, when he was 13, sent to the school kept by Joseph David Jones at Ruthin, where he received lessons on the piano by W. Argent. From Ruthin he went to a school at Tattenhall, near Chester; during the two years spent there he used to deputise for the parish church organist on occasions. When he was 16 years of age he was appointed organist of Beaumaris church, and at the age of 20 he became organist of the parish church, Tynemouth; here he took the diplomas of Associate and Licentiate of the Tonic Solfa College and, later, graduated Mus. Bac. (Oxon). He conducted the South Shields choral society and the Tynemouth choir. He composed five hymn-tunes for Aberth Moliant, 1873, ' Ravensworth ' is included in the Welsh Congregational hymnary of 1921. He arranged his father's cantata, ' Gweddi Habacuc,' and his anthem ' Teyrnasoedd y Ddaear,' for orchestra, and wrote an overture for the Pontypridd national eisteddfod, 1893; he also served as adjudicator at some national eisteddfodau. He wrote a biography of his father - Cofiant John Ambrose Lloyd, which was completed by H. Elvet Lewis; this work contains notes by him on his father's compositions. He died in October 1917.
