MARSDEN, THOMAS (1802-1849), cleric and author; b. in 1802 (or 1801), son of David Marsden, a lead-miner of the Lampeter neighbourhood. He was educated at S. David's College there, ordained in 1827, and licensed to Llan-y-crwys (1827-9), Tir-abad (1829-31), and again to Llan-y-crwys (1831-8). From 1838 till his resignation in 1840, he was vicar of Brymbo, and from 1843 till his death, rector of Llanfrothen. He d. 24 Oct. 1849, in his 48th year says his tombstone. In 1838 he published Chwech ar Hugain o Bregethau; in 1843 another twenty-six sermons; and in 1848 a volume of hymns and other verse, entitled The Poet's Orchard, in which it is stated that he also published a letter against the proposed union of Bangor and S. Asaph dioceses.
