MORGAN , GRIFFITH (‘ Guto Nyth-brân ’; 1700 - 1737 ), a fabulous cross-country runner , of Llanwynno, Glam. The few definite facts known of him, together with a mass of fable, will be found in the entertaining book Plwy Llanwynno , by William Glanffrwd Thomas (q.v.) . He is there said to have been b. in 1700 at Llwyncelyn , on the southern edge of Llanwynno , above Hafod (near Pontypridd ), but his family soon moved to the adjoining Nyth-brân . He d. in 1737 — dropping dead after covering the twelve miles from Newport, Mon. , to Bedwas church in fifty-three minutes. There is a memorial on his grave at Llanwynno .
