Born at Aberafan, Glamorganshire. He entered the ministry in 1808 and laboured in it for twenty-five years, eighteen of these were spent with the foreign mission, and seven in England. In 1810 he was appointed to the care of the station on Antigua Island in West-India. In 1816-17 he was in charge of the S. Vincent circuit, and had the oversight of S. Dominica for seven years. He acted as chairman and superintendent of the districts during the very difficult years of slave emancipation. He had remarkable gifts as a missionary, and was renowned for his efficiency in his handling of the Society's finances. He visited England in 1831 on account of ill-health, and died July 1833.
