MORRIS, WILLIAM (Rhosynnog , 1843-1922), Baptist minister of Noddfa , Treorchy, Glam. ;
b. 12 Sept. 1843 at Tre-boeth, Swansea, son of David Morris. He started by training to become an engineer. He was educated at the Swansea academy (kept by G. P. Evans, q.v.) and at Pontypool, and was ordained at Treorchy. He was secretary of the Welsh Baptist Union, 1879-98, and afterwards became its president. He was a promoter of cultural, temperance, and educational movements in the Rhondda Valley and was a prominent lecturer and politician. He started five new Baptist causes. He was a frequent contributor to periodicals — Y Bedyddiwr Cymreig, Y Ffenestr, Yr Ymwelydd Misol, Yr Herald Cenhadol, etc., he also published a commentary on the epistles of S. James and Titus. He d. 21 Dec. 1922.
