He became pastor of his mother-church on the occasion of the visit of the Association in 1735, although he is believed to have started to preach and to have been ordained some ten years earlier. At the same time he undertook the supervision of the church at Swansea. His ministry was extremely successful, and he was invited to preach at the Association meetings in 1741 and 1758. A hymn of his is included in Llyfr o Emynau (Carmarthen, 1740).

He died 19 January 1765, aged 72, and was buried near the chapel.
