OWEN , WILLIAM ( Philotheoros ; 1789 - 1841 ); Baptist preacher, schoolmaster, and almanacmaker ;

b. 1789 , a native of the Fishguard district, he is also associated with Letterston , and is said to have started to preach at Llangloffan , but it was as a schoolmaster at Cardigan that he spent the greater part of his life. He was a man of many parts — linguist , littérateur , astronomer , a poet in the free metres , and editor of a Welsh almanac founded by him, at Cardigan in the 1830's ; but he is best known, as his pseudonym implies, for his interest in mathematical problems . He d. 15 Oct. 1841 , aged 52, and was buried at Siloam , y Ferwig .
