PARRY , DAVID ( Dewi Moelwyn ; 1835 - 1870 ), Independent minister, and poet ;

b. 1835 , the son of John Parry , Ffestiniog, Mer. He received some measure of education as a boy, and in 1850 , at the age of 15, was successful at a Ffestiniog eisteddfod with a Welsh poem on ‘ The Printing Press .’ He was received as a member of the church of Saron , Ffestiniog , but moved to Caernarvon in 1856 . There he became a member of Pen-dref chapel , and in 1857 he began to preach . He was accepted as a student for the Independent ministry at Bala College in 1861 ( Dysgedydd , 1861 , 439), and was ordained pastor of Adulam chapel , Tredegar, Mon. , on Christmas Day 1863 . Resigning his pastorate in 1867 he emigrated to America , and accepted the pastorate of the Independent chapel at Providence , Scranton , Pennsylvania , where he ministered from Sept. 1867 till his death on 8 Sept. 1870 . Shortly before his death, he married Kate Williams , of Bradford , Pennsylvania . He served as poetry editor of the Welsh newspaper, Baner America , from its inception in 1868 to his death.
