PARRY , ROBERT ( fl. 1810-1863 ), poet ;

b. probably at Llanbryn-mair , son of Robert Parry , curate of that parish, and Mary , his wife, daughter of John Jones of Esgair Ifan . While he was still a small child his father was given the living of Eglwys-bach, Denbs. ( 1810-26 ) and the family went to live in that place ( Thomas , S. Asaph , ii, 311). He himself had originally intended to take orders, and was educated with that view, but changed his mind and for the greater part of his life farmed Plas Efenechtyd and Plas Towerbridge , near Ruthin . A number of his poems appeared in different periodicals, and he obtained the second place in the Denbigh eisteddfod of 1828 for an awdl on ‘ Belshazzar's Feast .’ He d. in 1863 , and was buried at Eglwys-bach .
