PHAER (or PHAYER ), THOMAS ( 1510? - 1560 ), lawyer, physician, and translator .

He was a Norwich man, being the son of Thomas Phaer of that place, the family being probably of Flemish origin. He was educated at Oxford and Lincoln's Inn . On being appointed solicitor to the Council of the Marches , he settled at Kilgerran, Pembs. , where he spent the rest of his life. He lies buried in Kilgerran church. He m. Anne , daughter of Thomas Walter , of Carmarthen . He was the author of legal works , and, turning to the study of medicine , he published an English translation of Regimen Sanitatis Salerni . He is best known, however, for his translation of Virgil 's ‘ Aeneid ,’ of which he completed nine books and part of the tenth.
