PRICE , OWEN (d. 1671 ), Puritan schoolmaster ;

b. in Montgomeryshire . He went up to Jesus College , Oxford , in Oct. 1648 . According to Anthony Wood , he remained there four years, and then ‘was called to the charge of a public school in Wales , where he advanced his scholars much in Presbyterian principles.’ The school has not been identified, and Price 's name does not appear in Dr. Thomas Richards 's list of Puritan schoolmasters in Wales . He returned to Oxford in 1655 , and graduated from Christ Church in 1656 . In 1657 he was appointed master of Magdalen College School . Expelled at the Restoration , he ‘ taught School , in which he much delighted’ at various places in England , and ‘became useful among the brethren, and a noted Professor in the Art of Pedagogy .’ He published text books . He d. at his house near Magdalen College , 25 Nov. 1671 .
