REES , DAVID ( 1751 - 1818 ), Calvinistic Methodist minister ;

b. 1751 at Cymrig , Llanfynydd, Carms. , son of Rhys Rees , one of the leading members of the Methodist society at Llanfynydd . He began to preach in 1782 and soon came into prominence both in North and South Wales ; on one occasion he accompanied Williams of Pantycelyn on a preaching tour. He was conscripted into the army but was released through the influence of one of the local gentry. He was ordained at the first Methodist ordination at Llandeilo in 1811 . He d. at Pontypridd , 10 Sept. 1818 , while on a preaching tour, and his body was taken to Llanfynydd for burial. He was regarded as an able theologian and his preaching was sound and powerful.
