RHYS WYN ap CADWALADR ( fl. c. 1600 ), of Giler , Ysbyty Ifan, Denbs. , poet ;

second son of Cadwaladr ap Morris Gethin of Foelas (see the article on the Wynne and Wynne-Finch families). Some of his englynion and cywyddau are preserved in manuscript, among them an elegy to his son ( Llanst. MS. 54 (259) ), and a cywydd ymryson with Thomas Prys (q.v.) in Jes. Coll. MS. 12 (319) , and Mostyn MS. 144 (84) , and, in the same manuscripts, two cywyddau in reply to him by Thomas Prys and a satirical cywydd to him by Huw Machno (q.v.) . In Llanst. MS. 49 (61) and B.M. Add. MS. 14966 (576) there is a cywydd to reconcile him and Siôn Phylip by Edmund Prys . The remainder of his work is found in the following manuscripts: N.L.W. MSS. 14,874 (178), 14,894 (105) . According to J. E. Griffith , Pedigrees , 189, where his pedigree is given, he d. 23 Feb. 1607 , at Chester , and was buried there in S. Mary's church .
