RICHARDS , JOHN ( fl. 1778-1808 ), Baptist minister .

The date of his death is unknown but it is known that he dwelt in Blaengwyddon and that he was ordained at Newcastle Emlyn at the close of 1778 . It was he who started to preach at Llwyndafydd, Cards. , in 1778 and urged the brethren there to raise a chapel in 1779 . It was he also who baptized the first seven persons meeting at the ‘ Engine ’ ( Landore , Swansea ) and incorporated them into a church in 1780 . He ministered at Soar , Llandyfân , 1793-5 . At the quarterly meeting held in Feb. 1796 he submitted a scheme for the education of young preachers . In 1797 he wrote an elegy on the death of David Powell , Nottage . He was for seven years with the General Baptists but he reverted in 1807 and d. before the Association of 1808 .
