No details are known concerning his early life, but it appears that he went, as servitor, to Christ Church, Oxford, and graduated B.A. there, 6 February 1577/1578. After entering holy orders it is said that he became rector of Aberffraw in Anglesey; he became M.A. in 1585. A large number of his poems remain in manuscript, most of these being cywyddau to various members of North Wales landed families, including those of Bodorgan, Henblas, Mellteyrn, Mysoglen, Penhesgyn, Penrhyn, and Plas Iolyn. He composed a cywydd of welcome to Henry Rowland, bishop of Bangor, on the return of the latter from London in 1610, one on the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, a poem in the form of a dialogue between a cleric and his lover, a number of various englynion which include one to the Virgin Mary, and ymryson (controversy) poems addressed to Gruffudd Llwyd, and also to Llywelyn Siôn of Glamorgan. His prose work, The day of Hearing: or six lectures upon the latter part of the third Chapter of the Epistle to the Hebrews …, was published in London in 1600.
