ROBERTS , RICHARD ( Bardd Treflys ; 1818 - 1876 ), poet ;

son of Thomas and Mary Roberts , Garthmorthin , Treflys , between Portmadoc and Criccieth, Caerns. — he hailed from the family of Dafydd y Garreg Wen ’ (q.v.) . When he was about 20 years of age, he went to live at Ty-mawr , Treflys , the home of Griffith Roberts , an uncle, and spent the remainder of his days there, unmarried. He was a zealous member of the Cefnymeusydd literary society — see Owen , Ellis , Cefnymeusydd . He d. 19 June 1876 , and was buried in Treflys churchyard. Poems by him are preserved in N.L.W. MS. 1010 .
