SEFNYN , an Anglesey poet of the second half of the 14th cent. He sang the praises of Tudur ap Goronwy of Trecastell and Penmynydd (d. 1367), and an elegiac awdl on his fellow Anglesey poet, Iorwerth ab y Cyriog (q.v.), who fl. around 1360. He also sang the praises of the wives of his patrons, such as Angharad, ‘Dafydd's spouse.’ His work has survived only in a confused state in the manuscripts. He was probably the father of the poet Gwilym ap Sefnyn (q.v.).
