THOMAS , ARTHUR SIMON ( Anellydd ; 1865 - 1935 ), cleric and writer ;

b. 5 Sept. 1865 at Crug-y-bar , Caeo , the son of D. Simon Thomas . He graduated ( 1897 ) at S. David's College , and was ordained in 1894 and 1895 . He was a curate at Llanwynno , Llandilo , Llangors , and S. Nicholas ( Pembroke town), before being appointed to the livings of S. Michael's ( Pembroke town), 1907-10 ; Maesmynus and other near-by parishes, 1910-21 ; S. Nicholas and Granston in Pembrokeshire , 1921-8 ; and Trefilan , 1928 . He d. 3 March 1935 . He was an extremely industrious writer and a great supporter of the eisteddfod ; he wrote for Y Geninen , Y Traethodydd , Yr Haul , and Y Llenor ; he was assistant editor of Y Llan and joint editor of Yr Haul ; he wrote (and translated) many hymns in both English and Welsh , including English versions of the hymns of Ann Griffiths .
