TWISLETON , GEORGE ( 1618 - 1667 ), officer in the parliamentary army ;

third son of John Twisleton of Barley Hall, Yorks. He served under general Mytton ; took part in the siege and capture of Denbigh castle , whereof he was made governor in 1647 . Shortly afterwards he m. Mary Glyn , daughter and heiress of William Glyn of Lleuar, Caerns. , and great-great-granddaughter of William Glyn ‘ the Sergeant ’ (see the article Glyn of Glynllifon ). Twisleton was active in suppressing the various risings in North Wales on behalf of king Charles I , and was present at the skirmish on Y Dalar Hir , Llandygai , 5 June 1648 , where Sir John Owen (q.v.) of Clenennau was overcome and captured. He was also a member of the High Court of Justice formed for the trial of king Charles , as well as of several commissions appointed by Parliament to deal with sequestrations, etc., in North Wales . He was appointed Member of Parliament for Anglesey in Cromwell ' Parliaments of 1654 and 1656 as well as in the Parliament of 1659 . At the Restoration he settled at Lleuar , and it does not appear that he was disturbed for his activities during the Interregnum . He d. 12 May 1667 , and was buried at Clynnog , where his tomb is still preserved. His wife d. in 1676 . Their son,


m. Margaret , daughter of William Griffith of Cefn Amwlch , and was justice of the peace for the county, as well as the sheriff in 1682-3 . He d. 26 Dec. 1714 . He was followed in the estate by his son


who m. Barbara Jackson , London (d. 22 Dec. 1732 ), whose daughter Mary m. captain William Ridsdale of Ripon , who was killed at the battle of Dettingen , 1743 , and who had disposed of the Lleuar estate to Sir Thomas Wynn of Glynllifon .
