WILLIAMS , WILLIAM HUGH ( Arafon ; 1848 - 1917 ), trade union leader ;

b. 8 Aug. 1848 at Mynydd Llandygài, Caerns. — his mother was a sister to William Owen , Prysgol ( 1813 - 1893 ) (q.v.) . He was the leader for the strikers at the Penrhyn quarry , Caerns. , in the 1896 strike and the unofficial adviser of the quarrymen in the great strike of 1900-03 . He became financial secretary to the North Wales Quarrymen's Union . He was a cultured man and a sane leader. He d. 24 Nov. 1917 at Mynydd Llandygài .
