WYNN , EDWARD ( 1618 - 1669 ), chancellor of Bangor cathedral ,

second son of Edward Wynn , Bodewryd — see Wynn of Bodewryd family — and his wife Margaret , daughter of Edward Puleston , rector of Llanynys ; b. 1 Oct. 1618 . His name occurs in the books of Jesus College , Cambridge , 7 March 1636/7 ; he graduated B.A. 1640/1 , M.A. 1647 , and D.D. 1662 . He was curate to Dr. John Davies , Mallwyd , secured the rectory of Llan-ym-Mawddwy ( 5 June 1644 ) upon the latter's death, and m. his widow, Jane , daughter of John ap Rhys Wyn . According to Moses Williams (q.v.) , F.R.S., Dr. John Davies left his lady in very good circumstances, but her second husband squandered her riches and abused her sufficiently besides. He was confirmed in the rectory of Llan-ym-Mawddwy by the Committee for the Propagation of the Gospel in Wales , 27 Nov. 1649 , but in 1650 he was ejected for some irregularity. He seems to have been re-instated before 1654 , and by July 1658 he was in Anglesey as rector of Llan-geinwen and Llangaffo . He also secured the rectory of Llangybi and Llanarmon, Caerns. , 29 May 1662 , and held it until 1666 , having added the rectory of Llanllechid to his preferments, 18 April 1665 . He was a member of convocation, 1661-2 , and in 1663 he became a canon of S. Asaph and chancellor of the cathedral of Bangor . He d. 17 Dec. 1669 , and was buried 23 Dec. at Llangaffo . He left fifty pounds in his will for adorning the cathedral of Bangor , and £100 to create an exhibition in his old college at Cambridge . His second wife, Sydney , daughter of Rowland White , of the Friars , Llanfaes (whom he had m. 7 April 1657 ), d. in 1670 . He published, at his own expense, a collection of Welsh prayers, the catechism, and a selection of metrical psalms ( Trefn Ymarweddiad y gwir Gristion, neu lwybr hyffordd i'r Cymro i rodio arno beunydd gŷd a'i Dduw , London , 1662 ), dedicated to his flock at Llangeinwen and Llangaffo . A second edition appeared in 1723-4 .
