EDWARDS, DAVID (1858-1916), journalist;
b. 11 April 1858. He was an apprentice in the Herald office at Caernarvon, and afterwards worked with the Liverpool Daily Post, but returned to Caernarvon as manager of the North Wales Observer group of newspapers, 1884-91. From 1891 till 1897 he was managing-editor of the Nottingham Daily Express and of its Evening News. He was assistant-manager of the London Daily News, 1897-1901, and editor and manager, 1901-2. Returning to Nottingham, he was editor and managing-director of the Express and Evening News from 1908 till his death, 22 Feb. 1916. To the above summary of his career (taken from Who Was Who) it should be added that with R. A. Griffith (q.v.) and J. Owen Jones (q.v. in App.), he was one of the authors of the pseudonymous The Welsh Pulpit…by a Scribe, a Pharisee, and a Lawyer, 1894 — Edwards was the ‘Scribe.’
